The Semeru eruption on Monday, 20th December 2021, 05:56 am WIB, caused the deaths of dozens of citizens and forced others into evacuation. In response, Catholic High School St. Louis 1 Surabaya and its sister organisations donated useful supplies to the humanitarian efforts currently ongoing. Donations began to be collected as soon as news of Semeru’s eruption broke, up until January eighth.

The supplies were distributed to Sumbermujur Village, Supiturang Village, Pronowijo Village, Umbulan-Lumajang Village, and the Agung Malang Diocese’s Disaster Post in Tumpang. All monetary donations, which amounted to Rp 81.266.005,- in total, were spent to purchase various necessities, which included foodstuffs like rice grain, milk, oil, and instant food as well as Covid-19 prevention supplies such as disinfectant. All supplies were delivered by a delegation of teachers and staff from the high school.

Catholic High School St. Louis 1 Surabaya and its sister organisations hope that the victims of the Semeru Eruption are able to recover from this disaster and are blessed by God. St. Louis 1 also hopes that their donations are of benefit and may be put to good use in the humanitarian effort.
